The purpose of this study
is to track program implementation variables and outcome data for students with
autism spectrum disorder engaged in school and/or home programs. Students who
began the study in 1998, were 2 to 6 years of age at the time of their initial
assessment and were receiving school and/or home based services. An additional
56 students, ages 2-4, were added to the study in the fall of 2001. This project
is collecting outcome data to provide the following: 1)
Objective individual student outcome data for program staff and parents 2)
Information to assist service providers in planning student programs 3)
Information on the effectiveness of specific instructional strategies on student
outcomes 4) A
comparison of outcome data results between various school/home based programs
5) A framework
for a statewide database of student characteristics, student assessment data,
and program implementation strategies, that would allow for longitudinal tracking
of students and program performance 6)
A description of the various instructional strategies being used by programs serving
students with autism This
study is tracking program implementation variables and student outcome data for
all participating students. Assessments are a combination of standardized tests,
surveys, and interviews. Portions of the assessments are videotaped and are re-scored
independently by raters. To ensure fidelity of implementation of instructional
strategies, both training and observational activities are occurring with each
program involved. |
